New 50€ banknote to be released next April!

On April 4, 2016, the new 50-euro banknote will be launched with its innovative security features. According to a communiqué issued by the European Central Bank (ECB), the number of counterfeits remains very small compared to the increasing number of genuine banknotes in circulation (more than 19 billion in the second half of 2016).

In particular, in the second half of 2016, approximately 353,000 counterfeits have been withdrawn from circulation, ie slightly higher than in the first half of 2016 and 20.7% less than in the second half of 2015.

Since the first euro banknote series has been issued, the Eurosystem - the ECB and the 19 national central banks of the euro area - urge citizens to carefully check the banknotes they receive. Genuine banknotes can be identified thanks to the simple method of the three checks ('touch-screening, visual inspection and angular testing') described in the section on the ECB's website on the euro as well as on the websites of the national central banks The Eurosystem.
